WASHINGTON — Noting that Aung San Suu Kyi is in good spirits and remains a vigorous champion for the people of Burma after talking to her by phone, a US senator expressed concern for her safety following the latest threat to her from the country's military junta.

Carleton University plans to award Aung San Suu Kyi, the Burmese pro-democracy leader and Nobel laureate, with an honorary degree in a ceremony next week.
In announcing the conferral of a Doctor of Laws in absentia, Carleton University is following the federal government in honouring Suu Kyi.
In December, Prime Minister Stephen Harper invited her to visit Canada and claim the honorary citizenship awarded to her in 2007.
